It’s the epitome of everything I’d ever want in a performance machine.

When it comes to daydreaming about what I’d buy first if I won the lottery, the answer is quite simple.

  • Car: 2021 McLaren 620R
  • Location: Angeles National Forest, Southern California

I was quite fortunate to have the 2021 McLaren 620R as a press loan earlier this year, and my God what an amazing four days it was. The first order of business was driving it on my favorite mountain roads. Then, I followed this up with some cruising around in day-to-day SoCal traffic, and finally, I got the chance to autocross it on a Sunday afternoon.

The way it handled, rode, accelerated, braked, and sounded was all sheer perfection. It was truly brilliant at all forms of fun canyon corner. I don’t care that it reverberated every single vibration from the engine into the cabin, and then into my spine. The sparse interior wasn’t any concern, either. Its epic amount of aerodynamic engineering made it the best windows-down highway cruiser ever, too.

Its the epitome of sense-of-occasion; from crawling down into the drivers seat, to hitting the engine start button, to its roof scoop acting as a sort of mechanical conch shell for intake and turbo noise.

If I won the lottery, my priority would be to buy a McLaren 620R in white, and then buy a modest house that could safely and conveniently store it. Conveniently, meaning no annoyingly steep driveway. I’d then give shit load of money to charity and such, but the 620R comes first.
